There are seven different Degree Programs

 

1.) Certificate of Completion - 3 Tasting Classes

2.) Bourbon Diploma Program - 6 Tasting Classes

3.) The Associate Degree Program - 13 Tasting Classes

4.) The Bachelor’s Degree Program - 21 Tasting Classes

 

5.) The Bachelor’s in Arts Program - 25 Classes attend all 3 Advanced Classes in ONE of the Big 3 and either Teach a Class -OR- Recruit a member that earns his Diploma.

6.) The Masters in Science Degree - 30 Classes

7.) The Masters in Arts Degree - 35 Classes attend all 3 Advanced Classes in TWO of the Big 3 and Teach a Class -AND- Recruit a member that earns his Diploma.


Certificate of Completion Program

The first and Most Basic of all of our curriculum is the “Certificate of Completion” in Basic Whiskey Studies.

Student must complete a total of THREE Courses and Tastings. Those classes must include all of three General University Requirements (GURs); Whiskey 101 Tasting, Bourbon 201 Tasting, and the Tennessee Whiskey202 Tasting.

  3. ”Tennessee Whiskey 202”

Upon graduation you will receive an unframed parchment Certificate of Completion and earn the title of “Apprentice Bourbon Taster” .

You will also receive an invitation to apply to the “Bourbon Brigade”

Bourbon Diploma Program

"Journeyman Bourbon Taster"

The Bourbon Diploma Program covers the many of basics in learning and tasting Bourbons and Whiskies. Student must complete a total of SIX Classes and Tastings. Those classes must include two of the three General University Requirements (GURs) of Whiskey 101, Bourbon 201, or Tennessee Whiskey 202.

In addition to the basics classes each student must complete the core requirements of any TWO Distillery Classes and any one elective class among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 8”x10” plastic frame and earn the title of “Journeyman Bourbon Taster” and upon acceptance of your invitation you will enter with the Commensurate Rank of Sergeant in the “Bourbon Brigade.”

The Associate Degree Program

"Junior Master Bourbon Taster"

The Associate Degree Program with a Major in “Bourbon Distilleries” requires that the student must complete a total of THIRTEEN (13) Classes and Tastings including all of the Bourbon Diploma Program and satisfy the GURs.

In addition the student must satisfy a Major Core Requirement of SEVEN (7) Distillery Classes; including three from the Bourbon Capital Region, two from the Bluegrass Region, one from the Whiskey Row Region and one from Tennessee (this total includes the two Distillery Classes taken for the Diploma Program). 

The student must also take from one up to four elective classes among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 8-1/2”x 11” Black Wood frame and earn the title of “Junior Master Bourbon Taster” with the Commensurate Officer Rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade in the “Bourbon Brigade”.

The Bachelor's in Science Degree Program

"master Bourbon taster"

The Bachelors in Science Degree Program requires that the student must complete a total of TWENTY ONE (21) Classes and Tastings including having already earned their Associate Degree.

In addition, the student must meet the requirements for a Major including the Core Requirement of TWELVE (12) Distillery Classes; including four from the Bourbon Capital Region, three from the Bluegrass Region, two from the Whiskey Row Region and one from Tennessee and any other two elective Distillery Classes (this total includes the seven Distillery Classes taken for the Associates Degree). 

The student must also take two "Other Whiskey" classes, two "Other Bourbon Classification" classes and any two elective classes among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 9”x 12” Mahogany two tone Wood frame and earn the title of “Master Bourbon Taster” and the Commensurate Officer Rank of Lieutenant First Class in the “Bourbon Brigade.”

The Bachelor's in Arts Degree Program

"Certified master Bourbon taster"

The Bachelors in Arts Degree Program requires that the student must complete a total of TWENTY THREE (25) Classes and Tastings including having already earned their Bachelor’s in Science Degree. The student must also have attended all Three Advanced Courses in one of the Big Three Distilleries (Jim Beam, Heaven Hill or Buffalo Trace). Before graduating the student will have either taught a class of their own -OR- recruited another member that went on to have earned at least a Diploma.

In addition, the student must meet the requirements for a Major including the Core Requirement of TWELVE (13) Distillery Classes; including four from the Bourbon Capital Region, three from the Bluegrass Region, two from the Whiskey Row Region and one from Tennessee and any other three elective Distillery Classes (this total includes the seven Distillery Classes taken for the Associates Degree). 

The student must also take two "Other Whiskey" classes, two "Other Bourbon Classification" classes and any four elective classes among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 9”x 12” Mahogany two tone Wood frame and earn the title of “Certified Master Bourbon Taster” and the Commensurate Officer Rank of Captain in the “Bourbon Brigade."

The Master's in Science Degree Program

“Chartered master Bourbon taster"

The Masters in Science Degree Program requires that the student must complete a total of THIRTY (30) Classes and Tastings including having already earned their Bachelor’s in Science Degree. The student must also have attended all Three Advanced Courses in one of the Big Three Distilleries (Jim Beam, Heaven Hill or Buffalo Trace).

In addition, the student must meet the requirements for a Major including the Core Requirement of TWELVE (16) Distillery Classes; including five from the Bourbon Capital Region, four from the Bluegrass Region, two from the Whiskey Row Region and two from Tennessee and any other four elective Distillery Classes (this total includes the twelve Distillery Classes taken for the Bachelors Degrees). 

The student must also take two "Other Whiskey" classes, two "Other Bourbon Classification" classes and any six elective classes among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 11”x 14” Matted Wood frame and earn the title of “Chartered Master Bourbon Taster” and the Commensurate Senior Officer Rank of Major in the “Bourbon Brigade.”

“Senior Chartered master Bourbon taster"

The Masters in Science Degree Program requires that the student must complete a total of THIRTY (35) Classes and Tastings including having already earned their Bachelor’s in Science Degree. The student must also have attended all Three Advanced Courses in TWO of the Big Three Distilleries (Jim Beam, Heaven Hill or Buffalo Trace). Before graduating the student will have either taught a class of their own -AND- recruited another member that went on to have earned at least a Diploma.

In addition, the student must meet the requirements for a Major including the Core Requirement of TWELVE (17) Distillery Classes; including five from the Bourbon Capital Region, four from the Bluegrass Region, two from the Whiskey Row Region and two from Tennessee and any other four elective Distillery Classes (this total includes the twelve Distillery Classes taken for the Bachelors Degrees). 

The student must also take two "Other Whiskey" classes, two "Other Bourbon Classification" classes and any six elective classes among the 48 classes offered.

Upon Graduation you will receive your Framed Diploma in an 11”x 14” Matted Wood frame and earn the title of “Senior Chartered Master Bourbon Taster” and the Commensurate Senior Officer Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the “Bourbon Brigade.”

Public Classes will be offered Monthly

 

Held at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant, located at 15 Public Square, Columbia, Tennessee 38401.

Whiskey Wednesday Classes are held on the third Wednesday each month at the Columbia location. Tasting Classes are taught by Bourbon and Whiskey expert, Colonel Craig Duncan, and hosted by Puckett’s in a laid-back and down-home atmosphere, where their aim is for you to remember your experience.

Classes will be rotated monthly between “Whiskey 101, Bourbon 201” and “Tenn. Whiskey 202”

Online Courses

At Whiskey University, we offer online courses. These courses are very similar to our tastings, but in a virtual realm. Here, you will be able to witness tastings and information from our instructor Craig Duncan. Craig is a long time whiskey educator who has a vast historical knowledge and expert tasting experience. In these courses, you will not only learn the history behind these delicate drinks, but also be able to conduct tastings, expand your knowledge and even brushed up on your lingo for a bar setting.
