George Crow has been a member of Whiskey University since April of 2022. In 2016 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. George earned his Bourbon Diploma with Whiskey University on May 31st, 2022.
Captain Crow is a Periodontist based in San Diego, California. George’s Kentucky roots run deep. Both sets of grandparents and both parents lived and grew up in Kentucky. George’s mother in Mt Sterling and father in Covington. Born in Indianapolis, George never resided in Kentucky himself and for years did not think he was a whiskey drinker. That all changed during a 2015 trip to Louisville with his son, Brian, to visit the Louisville Slugger Bat Factory. Spending some “downtime” between the factory tour and dinner, George and his family stopped in the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience and Jim Beam Urban Stillhouse. George enjoyed the samples from both …and so began his bourbon journey. With brief forays into Scotch and Rum, George eventually found he enjoyed bourbon above all other spirits.
In April 2022, with a ten bottle bourbon collection, George enrolled in Whiskey University’s trainer the “Train-the-Trainers” program. By graduation date on August 19th, 2022 with his Associate Degree in hand and the title “Certified Bourbon Taster”, his collection had grown to over 150 bottles…and is still growing. Excited to share his knowledge and passion for bourbon, George continues to attend Whiskey University classes and teaches in the San Diego area. George enjoys all bourbon, but particularly enjoys a neat glass of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof with just a little water.
George now serves on the “Whiskey Founders Life Story Committee” after volunteering to research contributors that have had significant impact on the Bourbon and Whiskey Industry. He realized that learning and writing about the people who are involved with the process is just as enjoyable as learning about the “juice” itself.
On October 11th, 2022 Crow earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree with 34 classes, at Whiskey University and the title of "Master Bourbon Taster" and the rank of Captain in the Bourbon Brigade.
