Commodore Bill Sergio

Commodore Bill Sergio is the New York State Leader and has been a member of Whiskey University since August of 2024. In 2016, Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. He still remembers his first course, Four Roses Brands- Course #307, and how much he enjoyed it. He credits that class with igniting his passion for Whiskey University. Bill earned his Bourbon Diploma with 11 courses completed on Oct 13th, 2024.

Bill is in 60’s and currently lives in Selden, on Long Island, New York. He hopes to eventually move full-time to his second home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bill and his wife Michele have been married for 30 years and have three children. His oldest son and daughter in law live in Key West, Florida. His daughter and youngest son both live on Long Island. Bill is a retired New York City Firefighter. He helps run the youth lacrosse league on Long Island, which is one of the largest in the country and currently a Board Member of the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation!

Bill earned his Associate Degree and the title of “Certified Bourbon Taster” after passing 24 courses on December 3, 2024. Bill only got into bourbon a year before joining Whiskey University. because he was intrigued by all the US history that went along with it. He has been able to teach his wife to enjoy sipping bourbon as well on occasion. Bill and Michele enjoy visiting the different distilleries across the US together and learning about each specific distilleries history. Bill continues to take courses and credits Whiskey University with instilling his passion for bourbon and its rich American history!

Commodore Bill advanced to earn the Title of “Master Bourbon Taster” by earnings Bachelor of Science Degree at 36 courses on Feb 12, 2025, Majoring in the Bluegrass Region. Then on April 7, 2025 earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at 48 courses, Majoring in the Bourbon Capital Region along with the rank of Captain in the Bourbon Brigade.

Bill continued his education and on June 24, 2025 he earned the Title of "Charted Master Bourbon Taster" by earning his Master of Science Degree at 60 courses with a Major in the Bourbon Capital Region. On August 18, 2025 he earned his Master of Arts Degree at 72 courses majoring in Tennessee Whiskey. On April 14, 2026 Bill earned the rank of Commodore in the Bourbon Brigade after completing his 107th course! Bill looks forward to continuing taking courses and attending Whiskey University events across the US and over seas!
