Lt. Col. Scott McElmeel

Scott McElmeel has been a member of Whiskey University since the Summer of 2024. Looking to gain more knowledge about the history of whiskey, Scott found the Whiskey University website & immediately knew that this was the place to expand his knowledge of whiskey! Scott earned his Whiskey Diploma on September 10th, 2024 after 12 courses and quickly followed that up with his Associate Degree and the title of “Certified Whiskey Taster” concentrating in Major Distilleries on March 5th, 2025 after 24 courses.

Scott is an Anesthesiologist and works in the downtown Oklahoma City area. He has bachelor’s degrees in computer science and mathematics with a Business Minor. He earned his M.D. at the University of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona.

Scott lives in Edmond, Oklahoma with his wife, Lana, of 33 years. They have 3 adult children aged 25, 23, and 20. His initial education in whiskey was by way of whiskey tasting parties at home. McElmeel earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Double Major in Tennessee Whiskey and the Bourbon Capital Region on September 10th, 2024 after 48 courses. Scott has now built a whiskey collection of almost 200 bottles and with the recent move to a new home, now has a hidden speakeasy in his home. Scott started as a Jameson drinker but rapidly expanded his palate to all types of whiskey and scotch. Today, his favorite whiskeys are Green Spot and wheated bourbons.

Scott finished his way through the entire seven-degree program degree program at Whiskey University. He is currently a “Chartered Master Whiskey Taster” and has earned his Master of Arts Degree with a Double Major in Craft Whiskeys and the Bluegrass Region. Along with the degree came the Honorary Rank of Lt. Colonel in the Bourbon Brigade which he obtained on May 28th, 2026 after 68 courses. Scott is a Certified Bourbon Steward with Stave and Thief Society. He also has Certificates in Irish Whiskey and American Single Malt Whiskey from Edinburgh Whiskey Academy. Scott is not a whiskey snob and sees nothing wrong with drinking a dram of Yamazaki 12 year followed by a dram of Mellow Corn!
