Colonel/Commodore Zachary Smith

Email address:        Zack@WhiskeyUniv.com

A man holding a framed certificate from Whiskey University and wearing a large gold medal around his neck in an industrial setting with metal tanks and pipes, indicating a distillery.

Professor Zachary Smith has been a member of Whiskey University since the beginning of 2023, quickly rising the ranks and earning his Master of Arts degree later the same year.

Col. Smith is a Kentucky Colonel, a practicing attorney in three states, a certified Whiskey Sommelier, and works with Dueling Grounds Distillery in Franklin, KY. Zack was born in Bowling Green, KY. He grew up in both Kentucky and Tennessee and now lives in Franklin, KY.

Zack’s passion for whiskey began in 2015 when he attended Law School in Nashville. Zack found himself enthralled with the mixture of law, history, science, and art form that whisky making is. What started as buying an affordable whiskey every month when his paycheck came in turned into a lifelong passion and study that leads him to teaching whiskey and consulting with bards and distilleries across the country.

His Whiskey University education and experience gave Zack another outlet to share his passion for the world’s greatest spirit as he’s had his hand in creating over 17% of the 120 classes Whiskey U now offers. Zack teaches multiple classes through Whiskey U monthly.

Zack earned his Associate Degree after passing 18 classes on April 4, 2023. Zack taught his first class on May 30, 2023. On May 24, 2023, Zack earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with 26 classes at Whiskey University. On June 21, 2023, Zack earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree with 34 classes at Whiskey University. On July 24, 2023, Zack earned his Master of Science Degree with 42 classes at Whiskey University. On September 14, 2023, Zack earned his Master of Arts Degree with 52 classes at Whiskey University. At the time of the writing of this bio, Zack has completed 88 classes at Whiskey U and is continuing to climb. He’s also been a contributing or sole creator to 21 classes Whiskey U now teaches.
