Professor Dan has been an active and dedicated member of Whiskey University since 2025. Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas, and Degrees in 2016. Dan embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. He earned his Whiskey Diploma in December 2025, along with the title of Journeyman Whiskey Taster after completing 12 courses.
Captain Dan is a retired professional based in Benton, Louisiana. Born in March 1959, he has traveled the world and currently resides in Louisiana. Dan is a retired U.S. Army Warrant Officer and a retired Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect. He is married and the proud father of three adult children and four grandchildren.
Dan completed his Associate’s Degree after completing 24 courses in March of 2026 and earned the title of Certified Bourbon Taster. He taught his first class in July 2026, presenting “Rye Whiskey.” His academic journey continued rapidly—in May of 2026 he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree, followed by his Bachelor of Arts Degree in August 2026. With that achievement came the title of Master Whiskey Taster, a Double Major in the Bluegrass and Bourbon Capital Regions, and the rank of Captain in the Bourbon Brigade after completing 48 courses.
What began as a simple curiosity for Dan evolved into the kind of passion that reshapes a person’s life. Through Bourbon Buds and Whiskey University, he discovered that whiskey isn’t just a spirit — it’s a storyteller. Every pour carries a memory, a moment, a person. He often says there are countless things he loves about bourbon, scotch, and Tennessee whiskey: the layered aromas, the shifting flavor profiles, the way history clings to every barrel and every rickhouse. But what he loves most — and what Bourbon Buds was built on — is the truth that whiskey is meant to be shared. It’s a bridge between people, a catalyst for stories, and a companion to the moments that become family legend.
Dan is currently pursuing his Master of Science Degree and the title of Chartered Master Bourbon Taster and the rank of Major. Dan is also a certified Executive Bourbon Steward through Stave and Thief and a Certified Bourbon Professional though Whiskey Masters.
