Captain Trevor Jones

Professor Trevor Jones has been a member of Whiskey University since 2021. In 2016 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. Andy earned his Bourbon Diploma on December 29th, 2020.

Captain Jones is a CRM Solutions Architect working remotely for a Digital Marketing Agency based in Carlsbad, California. Trevor was born in February of 1971 in Bangor, Maine. He grew up in the greater Bangor area, moving to Southern Maine for work after college.  He now lives in Gorham, Maine.

Trevor enjoys exploring craft distilleries in each new place he visits, and really likes learning how each region’s unique flavor profile reflects its culture and climate.  He also loves sharing his knowledge of bourbon and rye whiskey with others. Together with fellow Whiskey University instructor Dan Kelley, Trevor runs a blog and whiskey social group called The Whiskey Mafia, where they share their experiences, reviews, and cocktail recipes and get together with fellow enthusiasts both in-person and online.   

Trevor’s passion for bourbon began as soon as he was old enough to drink.  He had grown up watching his father enjoy Jim Beam bourbon and bourbon Manhattans and quickly found that he enjoyed them too. He became a much more serious bourbon collector and taster after he and Dan took the Certified Bourbon Steward’s class at a local restaurant in 2018. He currently has a bar in at one end of his living room that he calls the “Library Lounge,” which is named after a Hotel Bar in New Hampshire where he enjoyed his first tasting flight. Trevor currently has nearly 200 different whiskeys in his collection, consisting primarily of bourbon and rye along with a handful of Scotch and Irish selections.

Jones earned his Associate Degree after passing 16 classes on June 8, 2021. On November 7, 2021, Trevor earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with 25 classes, at Whiskey University and the title of "Adjunct Master Bourbon Taster" and the rank of First Lieutenant in the Bourbon Brigade. In May of 2022 Trevor became an Executive Bourbon Steward after completing the required course of study with the Stave and Thief Society.  Finally, Captain Jones advanced to earn the Title of “Master Bourbon Taster” by earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree and the rank of Captain in the Bourbon Brigade on July 1, 2022.
