Kentucky Colonel/Commodore Grant Fairchild

Professor Grant Fairchild has been a member of Whiskey University since early 2025. In 2012 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. Hal earned his Bourbon Diploma from Whiskey University on May 15th, 2025.

What began as a single Christmas bottle of Buffalo Trace in 2024 sparked an immersive passion for whiskey history, inspired by industry documentaries like Neat and heritage distilleries like Castle & Key. That initial curiosity quickly evolved into a collection of over 400 bottles and active involvement in 18 distinct barrel selections—with a personal highlight being a tour through the historic doors of Tyron Warehouse A at Wild Turkey. Locally, engagement continues through the Greenville Bourbon & Whiskey Society and the South Carolina Bourbon Community.

after joining Whiskey University, a rapid and dedicated ascent culminated in reaching the rank of Commodore in the summer of 2026 after completing all nine majors. The academic path began with the Whiskey Row Region to honor a favorite, Old Forester. Beyond academic achievements, leadership roles included serving as the Deputy State Leader and then State Leader for South Carolina, focusing on statewide instructor communication, alongside current efforts dedicated to ensuring the success of the Southern Regional Conference. Official recognitions also include commissions as both a Kentucky Colonel and a Tennessee Squire. Stepping into the classroom as an instructor proved memorable from the start, initially co-hosting Whiskey Row Region #255 alongside fellow Commodore Stacy Simpson.

A native of Michigan and a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Secondary Education, a journey of diverse experiences eventually brought a permanent home to Greenville, South Carolina. Following a foundational decade in retail management, a distinguished 25-year career in hospitality followed—spanning hotel management and national inspections across 45 states. Today, remote work provides a more balanced lifestyle as a Customer Service Manager for Takeout Central, a North Carolina-based delivery service dedicated to partnering with independent, farm-to-table, family-owned restaurants. Outside of work, life is shared with a partner of 20 years and a dog named Ziva, supported by a partner who has championed every chapter of a dynamic journey.
